Bullying and harassment

At BSMS we believe that all staff should be treated with dignity, respect and courtesy. Staff members should feel that any allegations of discrimination, bullying, harassment, violence or victimisation will be dealt with and treated as a serious matter. If you feel that you have experienced and witnessed bullying, our first recommendation is to talk to your line manager, their line manager or the BSMS HR Business Partner. The University of Brighton and University of Sussex reporting tools are outlined below.

University of Sussex employed staff: If you or someone else has experienced behaviours such as bullying, harassment, a hate incident, sexual violence, domestic abuse or discrimination, you can let the University of Sussex know using this Report and Support tool.

University of Brighton staff disclosure tool

The University of Brighton People department delivers the University’s People policies, strategies and procedures on all aspects of people management and are dedicated to providing an excellent, well integrated and efficient service. The University of Brighton operate a #NeverOK pledge with a staff disclosure tool which you can use to disclose incidents of bullying or harassment that you've experienced or observed.

BSMS is committed to challenging racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, transphobia and all forms of harassment and discrimination. We encourage students to report incidents they have experienced or witnessed. Ideally, we hope that students will approach the Student Advice Team; however, we recognise that sometimes students prefer to report anonymously.

This form is not a replacement for Student Advice and if you have any urgent concerns or issues you must use our Student Advice channels as your first point of contact.

Active Bystander Training

Dr Dunx Shrewsbury, Reader in Clinical Education and Primary Care, leads on Active Bystander Training at BSMS and delivers interactive workshops for staff and students throughout the year. It is essential that BSMS continues to strive towards cultivating and maintaining a safe and inclusive space for people to be their authentic selves. The video below provides an overview of the development and delivery of Active Bystander Training, the importance of allyship and how attendees are equipped with the skills necessary to develop their own practices with confidence.
